"For years I have struggled with my weight... I would try ANYTHING- starvation diets, countless 'natural' weight loss medications and concoctions, even at one stage I was surviving off 500 calories a day, taking some magic 'doing 3 hours of cardio a day and not seeing ANY results, so then I would BINGE on the weekends, out of frustration, always promising to 'try again on Monday'... Not only did I feel sooooo unhealthy physically, but hating what I was looking at in the mirror every day and a constant feeling of failure was seriously taking it's toll on my mental well-being, and my self esteem was shocking. "At the beginning of this year, 2015 , I was feeling very deflated. I had been told last year that I had Osteo Athritis in my knee and I was restricted in what I could do with it...including No squats or lunges and no hill running or long distances. I was lost and had no motivation in fitness and health, I needed some direction! As it was Fate had plans for me. "I have always enjoyed exercising and keeping fit and came over to Australia from England in good physical condition. But almost 2 years and lots of eating, drinking and being lazy later, I had put on over 10kgs, lost confidence and missed my former fit body. I came to Brisbane and joined Granite and trained with Lacey after spending a lot of time gaping at her awesome food concoctions and amazing transformation photos on Instagram, vowing to be 'lean like Lacey'! Lacey introduced me to lifting heavy, flexible dieting and minimal cardio and the changes started happening straight away. I was starting to enjoy exercising again and although I sometimes missed running, HIIT was all the cardio I needed- brutal but effective! "Hi Lacey. As the challenge is drawing to a close I just wanted to say a BIG thank you to you now before I forget how awesome I'm feeling right now. I think I've mentioned before that I started this challenge about 2 weeks after attending my 20 year high school reunion. While I felt good at the reunion, it only occurred to me afterwards that I had been feeling the same way about my body image for 20 years and despite having taken up long distance running since leaving school, that hadn't changed. Twenty years is a long time to wish for toned legs and a flat tummy and the confidence to wear a bikini! I realised that I needed to do something different but I didn't know what to do. When I saw my friend Shelly looking toned and fantastic at school one day, I took her advice and signed up for the challenge. That decision has become one of the best decisions of my life to date! So far I've only lost about 2/5-3kg on the scales but OMG, the difference in my body composition blows my mind. I look in the mirror and I can not believe it is me. I actually looked at one photo on instagram and thought "That chick looks pretty toned" and then realised "Holly sh*&, that is me!" I now fit back in to my BKW (before kids wardrobe) - it has been 7 years since I fit into some of those clothes! What running couldn't achieve in 7 years, I have achieved in 6 weeks - I still can't believe it! I'm not buying any new clothes until I finish the challenge (except for gym gear ha ha) but I tired some clothes on over the weekend and for the first time ever, I fit in to clothes that I thought just weren't for my body type - "Hello skinny jeans!" Woot Woot!! But it's more than just fitting into clothes and the physical appearances that I am loving. I feel bloody awesome! As you know I have two kids, one of which is my 10month old baby who has been teething through this whole challenge. There were nights were I only got about 2 hours sleep, but I rocked up to class or our sessions and left feeling great and better for it. Instead of feeling tired and run down for the day, I have more energy and feel great that I started the day doing something good for me surrounded by enthusiastic, encouraging people. I have more energy am happier and love feeling challenged. After I finish the challenge, I return to work having been on maternity leave. I have a pretty stressful and demanding job but I now feel like I am better equipped to manage stress and a heavy workload if I keep up with what I've been doing on this challenge. I don't think I could have done this well without you, Andrew, Jarrett and Ash's encouraging and friendly approach. In the past I have felt pretty intimidated and isolated stepping into other gyms but I couldn't believe it when on my first week, every trainer knew my name and seemed to know how to push me to a limit that suited me. Despite being professional athletes and competitors, everyone takes time to be encouraging, supportive and to make sure everyone is challenged. Instead of being intimidating, you guys are welcoming, encouraging and inspirational. At this stage in the challenge, instead of feeling tired or feeling like I can rest on my laurels, I feel more motivated than ever and am ready to really bring it home - I can't wait to see where the next 3 weeks will take me and when its finished I can't wait to take me daughter to White Water World and go on every bloody ride with her! "For what seems like the hundredth time you find yourself looking in the mirror and staring back at your own reflection. Your eyes quickly find the insecurities that you feel with your body and that voice in the back of your head tells you that you need to do something. You tell yourself that today will be the day that you make a change; that today will be the start of tour new health kick that will see you finally have the body of your dreams, the confidence to wear that bikini on the beach and ultimately be a happier and healthy you. But sure enough, only days later, you find yourself looking in the mirror again, disheartened and lost with no idea what to do. Like so many other females, this was me. For so long I had put my health and weight on the back burner - I made every excuse in the book to talk myself into thinking that neglecting my body was okay. But no matter how many times I tried to ignore my unhappiness, I knew deep down that this was not okay. I would even find excuses to avoid going to the beach purely because I didn't want to be seen in a bikini. Scrolling through social media one night, I came across Lacey's instagram account and her 8 week program at Granite Conditioning. I remember looking at the testimonies of her clients and Lacey's own journey and wishing that could be me. Then, I realised that it could but only if I made the choice to let it be. I remember writing Lacey and email and second guessing whether or not I would hit the 'send' button. "I honestly can't thank Lacey enough for everything over the past 8 to 10 weeks; she has completely changed my outlook on training and nutrition. I had already been training for over a year and thought I knew what I was doing when it came to nutrition, but I always struggled with self control and eating out. In November I took some time off to focus on my mental health, and I was finally back in the headspace of getting back into training when I got the DM from Lacey to say I was one of the winners of her Bikini Transformation Packages.
